"Second hand", "used", "pre-owned" and "refurbished" are not the same thing
These words get used interchangeably in UAE listings, and the difference is worth real money. A second-hand or used iPhone is sold roughly as the previous owner left it. A refurbished iPhone has been through a workshop: tested, cleaned, faulty parts replaced where needed, and graded before it is listed.
The practical difference is who carries the risk. A private used sale is final. A refurbished phone from a shop should come with a warranty and a return window, which is what you are paying the extra for.
What actually moves the price
Two listings for the same model can differ by several hundred dirhams. Four things explain most of that gap.
- Storage: the jump from 128GB to 256GB is usually the single biggest step on the same model
- Condition grade: cosmetic wear changes the price even when the phone works identically
- Battery health: a phone near the service threshold is worth less, because a replacement is coming
- What is included: warranty, return window and delivery are part of the price, not extras
Battery health is the number to ask for
On a used iPhone the battery is the part most likely to be worn. iOS reports its condition in Settings, so any seller can tell you the figure in under a minute, and a seller who will not is telling you something.
Many buyers treat 85 percent as a sensible floor. Below 80 percent iOS itself starts recommending a battery service, so price that replacement into any offer that looks cheap.
Check these before you pay
Whatever you pay, three checks separate a good buy from an expensive brick, and all three take a few minutes in person.
- Activation Lock: a phone still signed into someone else’s iCloud cannot be used, and a reset does not clear it
- IMEI: dial *#06# and confirm it matches Settings > General > About and the box
- Battery health: Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging

Frequently asked questions
Is a second-hand iPhone worth it in Dubai? For most buyers, yes. The saving against a new unit is large on models two or three generations old, and those models still receive iOS updates.
How much should I pay for a used iPhone 13 in Dubai? Use the list above as your reference and adjust for storage, grade and battery health. A listing far below it usually has a reason, so ask what it is.
Do refurbished iPhones come with a warranty? They should. Ours carry a 12-month RenewedDubai service warranty. A private sale on a marketplace usually carries none.
Which is cheaper, a Pro or a standard model? The standard model of the same generation is always cheaper. An older Pro often costs about the same as a newer standard model, and the choice comes down to camera and display versus software support.
